Today I had a meeting with the C For You Apparel Group in Georgetown (Seattle) and discussed my batik techniques, showed my work and discussed all the possibilities! I brought three large pieces of 100% cotton cloth home to create three pieces of patterned batik on, one will be stars on green, another spirals and stars on purple blues and the last will be just me going to town being creative - think of the designs I do on overalls, in particular the green overalls I wore in India and the brown and teal with the big eyeballs and paisley spirals! I'm so excited and I love the style of the dresses in progress they had on display there, very elegant. This batik line will be totally different. Well, it's great seeing Mandie Licious again - she would be a helper at all my shows at the Jewelbox, ie; stage kitten, box office etc and would always dress up on theme and be super creative. She is a brilliant seamstress designer in real life so this is going to be such a fabulous arrangement! We also have mutual friends in the arts community. I'm so glad this is happening because it's always been a dream of mine something like this - it feels like taking my batik to another level and the best part is I don't have to sew anything myself I just have to make the art! Mandie's partner (whose name escapes me) is a really cool older man who looks like Andy Warhol. They also had a couple seamstresses working there at the machines. I was also paid up front so that means they are serious! Yay!
In my own work I boiled out the jean jacket Pomba Gira and the vests and challah covers and they are beautiful! The Pomba Gira face is like a painting. I am considering doing some fabric paint on it, just lightly to bring out the red flowers. Of course that will make it more expensive but like the Green Faerie it'll sell no problem. It's a unique one of a kind piece, and signed. I am working on several pieces right now including a Frida Kahlo denim jacket based on a characterization picture I did when I was at the Art Institute of Seattle. I also just got in extra denim jackets. I have received some payments from Vashon Island boutique in my Venmo, so that means my stuff is selling there and that inspires me to make some more. I will just keep on keeping on - but it is nice to see all my years of hard work and dedication paying off!
I'm grateful for the opportunities coming my way and for those who believe in my abilities enough to invest in my art and I hope I may in return help their business as well bring in new customers etc. .. either way it's a win win time happening and that's a great note to end the year of 2025 on.
