Frida Kahlo 1907 - 1954, was a Mexican painter who was a pioneer in Surrealism creating her own individual style. She loved animals and nature, and even had a pet monkey. Here we see her with her pet monkey. This design is from an original caricature of Frida Kahlo done by the artist in the 1990's. She stands with her monkey draped about her like a baby, and her cigarette is a paintbrush. The thorned rose on the sleeve and the hummingbird necklace in the front and other small details all come from Frida's art.
Andre Breton, a founder of Surrealism, described Frida's art as "a ribbon around a bomb". Frida Kahlo was a great influence upon my own work and inspiration as an artist.
