Batik Challah Cover Workshop + Wine

http://www.sjcc.org/event/batik-challah-cover-workshop-wine/

An-Magrith will teach you the basics of laying down hot wax on cloth, then we will put our challah cover in a dye bath and batch it (take it home in a plastic bag). At home you will let your piece marinate for ten hours before boiling out the wax on the kitchen stove.

Design your own unique challah cover using traditional Batik methods with An-Magrith Erlandsen, owner of Pomegranate Batik in Seattle.

Participants will be led through the process of creating batik designs. Learn to paint with the medium of hot beeswax using the traditional Tjanting tool along with a paintbrush. Dye your pieces by fully submerging them in one color or use squeeze bottles to decorate with multiple colors – get creative!

Two complimentary glasses of wine and unlimited noshes are included!

About the Artist:
An-Magrith has a BFA from Cornish College of the Arts, and has been a painter and video artist, as well as an art teacher for over two decades. She first experienced batik art when she traveled to Indonesia in the early 90’s, but it was not until Covid happened that she learned to do batik by taking a zoom class by a master batik artist! She has since run with the batik torch and opened her own batik business online, Pomegranate Batik, where she sells her batik clothing and art. She also sells batik at two brick and mortar shops in the Seattle area.
